Ethan Czapla
Montana Blackfeet Leader
1. What inspired you to join VISIONS?
I wanted to join VISIONS because I have a passion for working with youth and always am excited to support others to step outside their comfort zone and find success. I am stoked to meet passionate students who are ready to challenge themselves, make authentic connections, and leave a positive impact on their travels.
2. What experiences have shaped your passion for community service and youth development?
I currently teach English and Social Studies at a middle school, but before this role, I worked as a substitute teacher, a community learning center leader, peer mentor, and summer camp counselor. Working with youth inspires and energizes me, especially when I can help support them in achieving greater than they thought possible. I have always had an awesome support system of teachers, coaches, and adult mentors in my life — it’s very important to me to leave a similar impact on those around me.
3. What is your favorite achievement?
I am proud to be wrapping up my first year as a teacher at a Title I school. I’ve made meaningful connections with staff, students, and parents, and done my best to take on each challenge with positivity and reflection.
4. What is your favorite place you’ve traveled?
Cork, Ireland!
5. What is the best advice you’ve received?
Believe in the potential of people to change, grow, and love.
6. What do you hope to accomplish this summer?
I hope to learn important lessons from the students, other staff, and local leaders. I am excited to contribute to community projects and leave a positive and substantial impact on both the place and the people.
7. What are you most excited about this summer?
I am very excited to spend my time in a new place with new people, make meaningful friendships, and give back to the community allowing us to learn there. I also can’t wait for the car drive — the nerves and unpredictability of the trip there, and the reflections and memories I’ll get to hold on the way back.
8. If you had to give one piece of advice or words of encouragement to someone on their first VISIONS experience, what would it be?
You will take a lesson, idea, or memory with you. Be yourself and leave one behind!
