Community Service Projects British Virgin Islands II
  • At St. Mary’s Church,
    • Cleared a dumpster of debris from the community center.
    • Reclaimed 30 two-by-sixes at the community center, removing nails and screws.
    • Built a second basketball court.
    • Built a mosaic walkway to the bathrooms.
    • Repaired broken-down walls inside St. Mary’s School.

 

  • With Green Clean (Julie Schwartz),
    • Cleared collapsed historical house and surrounding lot.
    • Built four 4-by-8-foot planters out of pallets.
    • Built two 4-by-8-foot compost bins out of pallets.
  • In partnership with Humane Society Animal Shelter (on Tortola), raked and swept the grounds. Walked shelter dogs.

 

  • With the National Park Trust:
    • Constructed an 8-by-16-foot boardwalk at the end of the trail to the Baths, using two-by-sixes. Shoveled and shaped the pathway. Measured and cut wood. Installed support system and top boards.
    • Cleared fallen branches and rubble at picnic area on Virgin Gorda Peak.
    • Recycled wood from three destroyed picnic benches to make two new benches.
    • Constructed four new A-frames using hand tools and a screw gun. Top boards were added and benches painted.
  • In partnership with the BVI Tourist Board:
    • Constructed four 2-by-2-foot planters for the Pond Bay Trail.
    • Installed rope handrails for the trail walkways.
    • Constructed five benches.
    • Cut pallets to make the bases and added two-by-sixes for seats and backrests.
    • Constructed 16 planters of different sizes (ranging from 2-by-2 feet to 2-by-4 feet).

 

  • In partnership with local contacts:
    • With Mark Noel, cleared hurricane debris. Removed a fallen-down fence at North End basketball court;
    • With Khoy Smith (on Tortola), demolished and cleared damaged poultry processor. Assisted in the preparation of the site and materials for concrete-and-cinder-block building at farm.
