1. What inspired you to join VISIONS?
I was inspired to join VISIONS because I believe in the power of service to create real connection and growth—not just for the communities we work with, but for the students, too. VISIONS stood out to me because it’s not just about helping—it’s about learning, living, and growing together. The cultural immersion, long-term community relationships, and meaningful service projects really align with my values.
2. What experiences have shaped your passion for community service and youth development?
As a young person myself, I’ve had the opportunity to work with organizations that focus on supporting children and families in vulnerable communities. Through those experiences, I saw firsthand how important it is to show up consistently, listen with empathy, and be part of something that brings hope and positive change to people’s lives.
Whether it was organizing activities for kids, supporting educational programs, or helping distribute resources, I realized how powerful service can be—not just for those we support, but for our own growth as well. That’s what truly sparked my passion and continues to drive me.
3. What is your favorite achievement?
My favorite achievement isn’t tied to one big moment—it’s found in the small, meaningful ones. It’s when someone shares how a simple action or kind word made a real difference in their life, whether it shifted their mindset or helped meet a basic need.
Those moments remind me that even the smallest efforts can create a lasting impact. That’s what makes this work so special to me.
4. What is your favorite place you’ve traveled?
I’ve only traveled outside the country once—to New York—and I didn’t enjoy it much. My favorite places are right here in the Dominican Republic. I’ve always been drawn to the beauty of the South, but the North—especially Puerto Plata and Santiago—holds a special place in my heart.
That’s where my family is from, and it’s filled with memories that have shaped who I am. That connection to my roots makes it even more meaningful.
5. What is the best advice you’ve received?
“Be where your feet are.” It’s a simple reminder to stay present and grounded, especially when things get hectic. It’s easy to get caught up in what’s next—but real connection and growth happen in the now.
6. What do you hope to accomplish this summer?
I want every student to leave with a deeper understanding of the world, their place in it, and what they’re capable of. My goal is to create a space where everyone feels valued, challenged, and connected—to the work, the community, and each other.
7. What are you most excited about this summer?
I’m most excited to see the transformation. Watching teens go from unsure and hesitant to confident and purpose-driven is powerful. I also love the spontaneity—those unforgettable moments you can’t plan, like dancing, joking around, or a late-night group reflection that really hits deep.
8. If you had to give one piece of advice or words of encouragement to someone on their first VISIONS experience, what would it be?
Lean in. It might feel unfamiliar or uncomfortable at first, but that’s where the magic is. Be open, be curious, and be present. Trust the process, and trust yourself—you’ll leave with far more than you came for.
