Born to immigrant parents, Georgia Calimeres learned the impact of cross-cultural immersion and understanding from a young age. Her earliest memories include visiting her parents’ home countries of Greece and Albania. She grew up in a bilingual household, speaking both English and Greek.
Georgia earned her degree in Environmental Studies with minors in Spanish and Sustainability from Eckerd College and has since set off to live in various parts of the world, ranging from Hong Kong to Patagonia, Chile. Although she has a passion for all international travel, Georgia has a special love for Latin America, both for its unique cultural attributes and the implications of environmental justice it faces in the global arena. This passion was incited by studying abroad in San Jose, Costa Rica. By living with a host family and taking classes in Latin American justice, she was enthralled with the Spanish language and understanding the perspectives of the Latinx community.

In the summer of 2021, Georgia began working as a leader for VISIONS in the Dominican Republic and fell in love with the warmth, love, and fun-lovingness of the Cotui community. Even more, she was inspired by seeing the deep effect that living and experiencing the Dominican Republic had on the VISIONS students. She is excited to be returning as a Program Director and be able to share the Dominican experience with her leader team.
In her personal life, Georgia enjoys spending time with her family and cats when visiting home in northeast Pennsylvania, but spends most of the year living abroad. She loves cooking, reading and hiking. In the coming fall, she will be enrolling in American University in Washington, D.C. to pursue a master’s degree in International Relations and Sustainable Development.
