Dan Herman was raised in the melting pot of Connecticut, alongside many cousins. He earned a degree in psychology and Spanish at UCONN and studied abroad in Spain. Between school years, he spent college summers in southern Utah, operating boats on Lake Powell.
After graduating, Dan spent a few years working abroad in Spain, Peru and Argentina. He led VISIONS programs for four summers in Peru and the British Virgin Islands, and later worked in the VISIONS office in Montana coordinating programs.
Dan has also led youth environmental education courses in Maine, and most recently has been managing a small non-profit bicycle shop in Oregon. Here, he and his team refurbish used bikes, modify them for urban commuting, and provide them to partner organizations (refugee networks, women’s shelters, foster care, halfway houses, etc.) – merging the concepts of reuse, accessibility, and clean transportation.
In his free time, Dan enjoys playing music with friends, repairing things, seeking sustainable solutions, shooting photography, and encountering new places. His varied experiences have fueled his passions for environmentalism, psychology and cross-cultural connection. He is looking forward to connecting with folks in the Blackfeet community and to leading the group as they expand their horizons and perspectives.
