Travel Tip: Teen Volunteer Opportunities At Home & Abroad

volunteeringIf there’s one way for your child to continue his/her education when school is out, it’s by traveling. There are plenty of teen volunteer opportunities happening this summer that can benefit local communities.

Visions Service Adventures organizes community-service programs for middle and high-school students. Teens can travel both domestically and abroad, participating in programs like working with organic farmers in the British Virgin Islands or doing construction in the Dominican Republic.

Cross-Cultural Solutions has summer programs for students ages 15 to 17. They’re located in countries like Guatemala and India. There are supervisors are on site and meals are included, as are medical and evacuation insurance.

If you prefer the kids remain closer to home, the Sierra Club hosts student and family-friendly volunteer programs, including working with national park rangers in Yosemite this summer.

Plus, Habitat for Humanity’s Global Village trips offer student-oriented volunteer experience with programs all around the globe. High-school and college students can organize a project themselves to help build homes everywhere from Alaska to Argentina.
