VISIONS Nicaragua II teen volunteers wrapped up their two-week Spanish immersion program yesterday, after working in and exploring from their home base in the central highland city of Jinotega. The main community service project this summer was the completion of a two-story alburgue, a community center and facility for medical clinics set up by visiting international doctors. This construction project has been ongoing since 2012, and between the two VISIONS Nicaragua summer sessions, we have brought it to the finish line. Professionals within the community will complete what’s left, including the electrical and plumbing. Located in a mountainous area, known for coffee production, the group was also able to explore the surrounding areas, including a visit to the Volcán de Masaya (pictured), a caldera located in Nicaragua’s first and largest national park.
