Kannika, or “Kan,” was born and raised in Cambodia. Although she grew up in bustling Phnom Penh, the capital city, she always enjoyed spending time in the countryside, exploring different regional cultures and cuisine.
Four years ago, she moved to California, where she is completing a bachelor’s degree in computer science and mathematics from California State University, Sacramento. (She is a part-time math tutor.) She also learned to love hiking, camping and road trips—not to mention warm weather and beaches.
One trip was especially auspicious. While visiting a Cambodian friend in Bozeman, Montana, in 2017, she met VISIONS Director Katherine Dayton and knew she wanted to be involved with the organization—it’s the perfect match for her love of kids and her passion for sharing the beauty and traditions of her home country.
After serving as a leader on the Cambodia program, she’ll now be taking the reins as a director. Kan looks forward to discovering new things about her own community and working together with a team of VISIONS leaders in Cambodia.
