Environment & Adventure

Matthew Dayton from Visions Service Adventures

This is my first summer with VISIONS and I am really excited to be part of the community! I am originally from California and feel grateful to have grown up hiking and enjoying the coast. Point Reyes is one of my favorite places. After high school, I took a gap year where I had the privilege to travel to India and Indonesia. I’ve fallen in love with traveling and hope to make that a key part of any future career. Since then, I’ve traveled to Japan, Israel, and several European countries.

I’ve recently graduated from the University of California, Davis with a B.A. in American studies with an emphasis in environmental policy and ecology. During my time at UCD, I’ve worked as a guide for Outdoor Adventures, a student-run organization that takes community members outdoors for the backpacking, snow, and rafting programs. Additionally, I am a yoga and cycling instructor and generally enjoy being active.

I love being outside, eating Mexican food (tacos are my favorite), and cooking. I have a sweet tooth, so I also enjoy baking, especially if it has anything to do with Chai spice.

I hope to travel for a year or two when it’s finally safe and aspire to be a documentary filmmaker, particularly focusing on issues surrounding the environment and climate change.
